Bromley Road is fortunate to have a team of dedicated volunteers who work alongside the Senior Leadership Team at the school to provide strategic direction and leadership. The Governors have a clear focus on three core strategic functions:
To find out more about each Governor, please see their Profile below.
Stuart Dixon - Chair of Governors & Local Authority Governor
I am a local authority governor (LA) and provide a link with Bromley Council. LA governors apply to Bromley Council and are interviewed by councillors. They formally approve appointments for a four-year term. I was appointed on 27 October 2015.
I currently work on construction and regeneration projects. Having formerly worked for a government regulatory body and led on property management for a housing association my skills are in governance, procurement and contract law.
As Chair my role includes working with our Headteacher to promote a high standard of education; ensuring the governing body sets a clear vision and ethos; together with my fellow governors holding the headteacher to account for the performance of pupils and staff and making sure there is oversight of how effectively the schools uses its financial and other resources. It also includes being very proud to be part of a team of wonderful and committed people supporting a school that is rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted but is working hard to become ‘Outstanding’.
Dr Alison John - Vice Chair of Governors & Parent Governor
I am a parent governor and was recently elected to the role of Vice Chair of governors. I have 3 children, 2 of whom are at the school (Years 2 & 4). I write the governors newsletter and am keen to hear from parents and carers about anything to do with the school, good or bad!
I am a scientist and I worked in leukaemia research before moving to Cancer Research UK where I helped with the discovery of new cancer drugs. I’m hoping that I will be able to use my scientific background in my role as a governor, particularly as science has now become more prominent on the primary school curriculum. I am very excited about supporting and working with the school in my role as Vice Chair.
Geraldine Abrahams - Co-opted Governor
I am passionate about ensuring children and young people are supported to achieve their maximum potential and that all children get the best possible start in life.
I am currently Head of a Multiagency Team working in the Early Intervention and Targeted Service, Children and Young Peoples Service in Lambeth, offering support to families, children and young people who have additional needs and providing support for young people who are not in education or who cannot access the curriculum.
Winsome Hull BA Hons FCCA - Co-opted Governor
I am a recently elected and am excited about the opportunity to be a governor following a leadership development programme I recently completed which highlighted the fantastic work done by governors in our local communities. I am passionate about education and the opportunities it provides children to fulfil their potential. This interest developed whilst working for Save the Children UK and travelling around the world as an accountant providing coaching and training to staff and meeting children whose lives were made more complex by war and economic deprivation.
I am a qualified chartered certified accountant, with over 15 years work experience and am currently working in public transport as a principal analyst. I am also a unit leader and former district treasurer for girl guiding in Penge and Anerley. This is something I enjoy immensely especially as it allows girls to explore new pursuits in a fun, safe and sociable environment.
I hope that using my financial, leadership and management skills as a member of the governing body will ensure efficient and effective governance and enable the school to achieve its vision and strategic objectives
Catherine Parodi - Co-opted Governor
I have two sons, with the eldest in Year 4 at the school, and caught the “Bromley Road bug” on my first visit in 2010 when I was struck by the warmth, happiness and love of learning that echoes through the school.
Catherine Crawford - Co-opted Governor
I am an experienced housing and social care professional with experience in the public, private, and third sectors. My recent experience has been as a self-employed consultant primarily working in local government adult Social Care, Governance & Quality Assurance. I have recently taken up a role as a Governor’s Clerk in the London Borough of Lewisham.
I am passionate about education and have been involved in education for many years as a school governor, spending 10 years with Millbank Primary School in Westminster (now Millbank Academy) 4 as Chair of Governors. I am also a parent and steered 2 sons through their education in London.
I have held numerous non-executive roles in the third sector including 6 years as a Board member of Wandle Housing Association in South London. I am currently a Trustee of Nkuru Environmental Trust, a small charity supporting education and sustainable farming in Kenya. I also volunteer with Southwark based mental health charity Cooltan Arts.
I bring considerable experience and passion to the role and welcome the opportunity to contribute as a Governor at Bromley Road Primary School.
Victoria Colyer - Deputy Head Teacher & Staff Governor
I joined the leadership team at Bromley Road in April 2013, having previously been an Inclusion Manager at another Bromley Primary school. My previous role developed my passion and commitment for ensuring that pupil’s individual needs are met, so that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
Karen Minnis BA (Hons) PGCE NPQH - Head Teacher
I was appointed Head Teacher in September 2010, having previously been Deputy Head at another Bromley Primary school. I have a firm-belief in life-long learning and have enjoyed the benefits that great schooling brings. I enjoy working with colleagues, including staff, Governors and parents to make each day a memorable learning experience for others.
I enjoy opportunities for working in partnership with other schools and, as a geographer, I am keen to create a lasting international link for Bromley Roaders.
